This policy covers the Android application Mutma'innah, package com.mutmainnah, as published on Google Play.
Hani Mustafa Hashmi is the developer of Mutma'innah. The app is written and published by him as an individual, not by a company, and there is no other organisation behind it. Where the words "the developer" appear below, they mean Hani Mustafa Hashmi.
Mutma'innah is a companion for daily worship: Qur'an reading, Du'a and Darood collections, a Tasbeeh counter, prayer times and Qibla direction. It has no sign-up, no account and no login, and the developer runs no server that stores anything about you.
Prayer times and the Qibla arrow are calculated from where you are, so the app asks for approximate or precise location. Granting it is your choice. You can refuse and instead pick a city by hand, in which case the app never reads your device location at all, and you can withdraw the permission at any time from your phone's Settings, under Apps, Mutma'innah, Permissions.
When location is used, your coordinates are kept on your own device so the app need not ask again, and they are sent to two third party services purely to answer the question at hand:
Receives your latitude and longitude, and returns the prayer timetable for that place.
Receives your coordinates, or a place name you type, and returns the matching city name so the app can show where its times are for.
Your coordinates carry no identifier of you or your device, are not stored by the developer anywhere off your phone, and are never used to build a profile or a location history.
The following is written to the app's own storage on your phone, is readable only by Mutma'innah, and is never uploaded anywhere:
Automatic cloud backup is switched off inside the app, so none of this is copied to Google Drive. Uninstalling Mutma'innah deletes all of it permanently.
If you turn on prayer reminders, the app schedules alarms on your device, and may ask permission to post notifications, to set an exact alarm so a reminder lands on the prayer's own minute, and to restore its alarms after your phone restarts. Reminders are produced entirely on your device. No push messaging service is used, and nothing about your reminders leaves your phone.
Most of the app is bundled inside it and needs no connection, including the Qur'an text, the translations, and the Du'a, Darood and Azkar collections. A few features fetch content when you open them, and the provider of that content necessarily sees your device's IP address and an ordinary web request, as any website does:
These parties are outside the developer's control, and nothing about you is sent to them beyond what the request itself requires. What they do with it is governed by their own policies.
Mutma'innah does not request, and cannot access, your camera, microphone, contacts, call logs, SMS, calendar, or the files on your phone. Sharing a card or an ayah hands an image to your phone's own share sheet at the moment you press Share, and where it goes from there is your choice.
Mutma'innah is suitable for all ages. It carries no advertising, no in app purchases, no chat or user to user features, and no user generated content. No personal information is knowingly collected from anyone, children included.
Because your content stays on your own device and the developer runs no server holding it, there is no database to be breached. Every request to the services listed above is made over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
If the app's handling of information changes, this page is revised and the date at the top is changed with it. Anything material will also be described in the release notes on the Google Play listing.
Questions about this policy, about Mutma'innah, or about your data are answered by the developer, usually within seven days.
